An encounter with a false image: the public face against the true one. What appears is not reality. The card speaks of self-deception, of the ego and the constructed self, of the call to live in the present and keep your personal wholeness rather than bow to an imposed ideal.

The illusion is shattered. Truth has cut through the deception, and there is no longer a comfortable lie to cling to. Any situation is better seen as it is, however unlovely: truth is a gift, it frees you from captivity. Sometimes (in matters of trust) it means the person is precisely no illusion.
